I worked at King Pacific Lodge for four summers and I had a chance to work with Tom on a number of occasions. We explored a lot of Princess Royal Island and area together. Tom always took care of my life, and the life of the guests in the heli and we had flown in some pretty crazy conditions. With Tom's local knowledge he set us up on some unbelieveable trips. The thing I will remember most about Tom was that he gave to everyone he met. He always thought about you first. He was always in a great mood, forever optimistic and always had a smile on his face. I always felt Tom would do anything for you if you asked him. I really enjoyed having a beer with him after work, Tom I remembered, loved having cesears, of course he always poured you one first. Tom was just a fun guy to be with. He had great energy. I do not have any pictures to post but I did pull out a couple of pictures of Tom and I and some guests at the hotsprings he used to take us to. KPL was some of the best times of my life and Tom was a part of that. One of Tom's favorite sayings was "you betcha." Anything you asked him to do it was "you betcha." Tom, you will always be in our prayers, our thoughts, our hearts and my great memories of the north coast......we all love you Tom.....you betcha.

I didn't know Tom as well as others, but what I did know I liked. I only met one of his children, and he seemed like a very devoted and caring father. Tom you are in my thought and prayers. You will be sorrily missed. Tom is with the angels now and they will look after him. o:)

Like Norm, I too worked with Tom on a number of occasions during my years of heli-guiding at King Pacific Lodge. He was an exceptionally skilled pilot and I never once doubted placing my life in his hands. He had a casual way about him that instantly put our guests at ease, and made my job that much easier. It is with great sorrow that I received the news of his passing, for I know it has affected many people who loved him very much. I have no doubt he's up there right now, soaring just higher than any of us can see, as always keeping an eye out for the rest of us.

I work in the Vancouver office of King Pacific Lodge and met Tom on several occasions during some of my short visits to the lodge. He was an enormously generous person opening up his home to the KPL staff for "getaways" from the lodge, even if he didn't know them well or met them at all. He impressed our guests with his flying skills and hospitality, some return guests often ask about him and whether he will be at the lodge during their trip. He always took the time to stop and say hello and ask how you’re doing. And he had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel included and get everyone involved. I recall bumping into him on a flight between Terrace and Vancouver, and as we sat and chatted, I noticed there were a couple of passengers that seemed to want to read quietly during the flight. It did not appear they were entertained by Tom's social personality that was so obvious to the rest of the passengers. Well, by the end of the flight, everyone at the back of the plane had a Caesar in hand and chatting to the person next to them. That was just like Tom. Even though it had been a while since his last visit to KPL, he will truly be missed by staff and guests. To his family, friends and co-workers, I send my deepest sympathies for your loss. I hope that these stories posted here add to your memories and maybe even bring a smile to your face to help comfort you during this time.

In every one of my memories of Tom there is a smile. Mind you sometimes it would be as if the cheshire cat had an ace up his sleeve kind-of-smile but usually it was a genuine "hello, good to see you" one. Whichever smile you happened to come across, I remember that he always had one for you no matter who you were. The last encounter I had with Tom was in Terrace last year. His family was there waiting for him as he flew in like a super hero and walked big towards the car. He saw me and waved, bellowing out a "Hiya Kim!" and for me, it was an instant smile right back. I can only imagine what life is like having a father as a helicopter pilot. He was someone who dared to dream big and told stories that would make you smile from ear to ear, and then blush for an hour afterwards. My heart goes out to his family and kids which he loved so much.

All of us at Equity Engineering that had the pleasure of working with Tom last summer on the RDN and Thorn projects are deeply saddened his untimely loss. My heart goes out to his family.

Tom was the spark that made a lot of things run last summer and he brought a seemingly boundless resevoir of energy to our project. I appreciated his willingness to solve problems and pitch in whenever something needed to be done. Tom was do-er in the true sense of the word. Working with people like that is very rewarding.

But more than that, I found Tom to be personable and friendly in all situations. He really tried to show some interest in the people he was working with and not just the job. Tom always enjoyed himself. I will always remember him rubbing his tummy, with a satisfied smile, whenever he got to eat one of Deb Guilfoyle's dinners at the RDN camp instead of his own cooking at Bob Quinn!

My deepest condolences to Tom's family and all those who knew him well.

We'll miss you Tom.

I only got to know Tom over the last few months through his work with Lakelse Air and the Town of Stewart. He was a wonderful man, always thinking of other people and he always had a great smile and kind words. My deepest sympathies go out to his family. He will be sorily missed.

After the initial shock and tears for his family came a smile. A smile that came from remembering how Tom entered a room. He reminded me of a friendly, big ambling bear. That big rascally grin of his was contagious, one could not help but smile back.

KPL guests loved him - if they were the least bit alarmed at flying in a helicopter (quite often for the first time) he quickly put them at ease with his charm and humour. One just knew that they were in safe hands.

My heart goes out to his family, his close friends as well as all the folks at Lakelse. Please know what joy Tom brought to so many lives.

Here's to you, Tom, I hoist a Ceaser to you (and believe me, it's a double just for you).....

Tom was one of my best friends for about 20 years.we worked together, played together, fished together and went places together with our families.Tom knew so many people along the way,he would always put a smile on your face. One thing I will always remember about Tom is no matter how much doom and gloom the econmy could throw at him, the light was always on in that tunnel and he wasn't giving up until things got better for him and his friends. Tom was at a great point in his life and career ,the light in that tunnel was getting brighter everyday.he was a happy man who loved his family and friends, I'LL MISS YOU BUDDY. Tom was a dear friend,he never let me down as my boss or as a weekend buddy. Tom always saw the best in everyone even after their fourth and fifth chance.
Tom loved entertaining, his door was always open to company and he always was bragging about mixing the best "ceasar". Tom was "absolutely" one of a kind.
I have know Tom for many years and through his ups and downs he was always optimistic. Tom was a great boss, a very good friend and a loving father. Tom will be missed but not forgotten. YOUR FRIEND FOREVER. MIKE MORRISON & FAMILY.

Tom and Rita blew into my life when I joined Rita to work with Hawkair. He, a big, warm hearted teddy bear. No matter where he saw you, out and about, he would wrap you in a great big hug that made you feel all was right with the world. Rita and Tom shared their home and love with all. You never felt like an intruder, just welcomed. Tom set down in the area behind work one day, and the next thing I knew, we were in the Helicoptor and taking off on my first ever, flight. It was wonderful. Tom, I will miss that great Ceasar Salad you would make for all of Hawkair does and just whenever. Along with all of Rita's co-workers, I say "good-bye" and keep flying. I know you will watch over us all as you did in life. To the family, my heart goes out to you. As all have said before me, you will be missed but NEVER forgotten.
I will miss you and your hugs and smiles. Donna Kurth.

Tom thaught he was a real jokester, I will always remember the time that he handed me a scratch ticket, low and behold I won $10,000, wow just in time for me and my family to go on vacation to Disneyland. I was so excited and couldn't believe I had just won. All along I was thinking I needed to give Tom half since he was the one who had given me the ticket. I asked Tom if this was a phoney ticket and he said as he always said "YOU BETCHA" We had a good laugh but if I only had a chance, pay back would have been a bitch. I LOVE YOU AND I WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU KATHY

As others before me have already said so eloquently, Tom was indeed an exceptional soul. The first time I met him involved pitchers of beer and a political debate. Even under those circumstances, it was immediately evident that the person I was “arguing” with, was also one of the most congenial and convivial people I had ever had the pleasure to meet. For at least a couple of years afterwards, whenever Tom and I ran into each other he’d ask me how my “tree hugging ways” were going...but always with that huge engaging grin of his.

Tom’s combined attributes of gregariousness, acceptance, and caring, added up to one heck of an incredible human being.

I hope Tom’s family knows that he will never be forgotten by the many, many people whose lives he touched. May the thought of those memories bring comfort to Rita, and glory to Tom,

I didn't know Tom all that well and really only met him for the first time in 2001 when Rita's daughter Amber and my daughter Emily were graduating at the same time. Amber and Emily had been good friends for a long time. Tom and Rita hosted a get together and picture taking for the grads on Prom night. We took Emily there (when they lived on McConnell) and could not believe the hospitality. Tom came and introduced himself and made us feel right at home - along with all the other adults amd teenagers. What a good time - there was lots of food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Hundreds of pictures were taken and Tom made sure everyone was taken care of. That was our (or at least my) first time meeting Tom. I saw him after that at lots of other places and he was always the optimist - always had a plan, something on the go and he was going for it full bore - no holding Tom back. I enjoyed and even looked forward to running into Tom and Rita (usually at Mr. Mike's. Then I started working at Hawkair and had other occasions to see him - still always on the go. YOu will be missed by everyone whose life you touched.

Rita, family, friends and co workers. Marilyn & I were so sadened to hear of your loss. Our deepest sympathies and our thoughts are with you all. Tom lived life and in the process he helped others do the same. Life is too short to let it slip by and Tom certainly held on tight and had a great ride. The poem High Flight has over the years become a mantra to pilots. It is reproduced below as a tribute to and in memory of Tom. Marilyn and I are raising our ceasars to you now Tom. Fly High. CHEERS. Doug, Marilyn, Jade, Danika

HIGH FLIGHT

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

As said above, once and awhile you meet someone who lights up the room. That was Tom,just a great guy, always warm, made you feel welcome.Took me flying for the first time in a helicopter, probably not as nicely as some of the KPL people......lol.We were flying over the airport and the door popped open,I almost went into cardiac arrest,he just laughed at me and calmly said"you didn't close it properly".........no big deal.Always trying to make everyones day,on the same trip we went to lakelse river and landed there,he met some people who were newlyweds on their honeymoon,he took them for a ride and I fished with their equipment and caught a fish!Just an awesome guy.My heart goes out to Rita and the family.Pretty hard to lose a guy like that.:(.Thanks for taking care of my daughter those years.........You will be missed..........

If you dont know me I am Tom's oldest daughter. Thank you to everyone who took the time to wright a little something on here. Although reading these posts brought tears, it also brought a smile, because I miss my dad so much and love remembering the crazy, wonderful, sometimes just plain goofy things he did or said. Its still such a shock to me that he's gone, but I still say goodmorning to him every day when I wake up and goodnight and I love every night before I go to sleep. I wish that I could follow in my dads footsteps, and touch as many peoples lives as he did. My dad and I didnt always get along, but the last time I saw him he gave me a hug and said "Alright, I Love Ya Kid" and I would say thats a pretty decent goodbye. Although I wish I could have spent more time with him, I will always remember the times we did share. And all the people I met thanks to him, people I hope to keep in contact with. I love and miss everyone in Terrace...if anyone ever wants to get a hold of me they can email jenbondifur@hotmail.com
